Question:
Will surgery be cancelled if a patient is having allergy symptoms pre-op?
My wls is scheduled for May 4th. I do not want to have to postpone surgery and go through this waiting period again. I am having allergy symptoms such as scratchy, sore throat and post nasal drip. I do not have any fever and feel fine other than the throat. Is this type of condition one that would keep me out of the O.R. on the 4th of May? — Susan I. (posted on April 23, 2001)

if it doesnt bother you and your pcp clears you for surgery, there is no
reason why it would be postponed.

I had the same thing 4 days before my Open RNY on April 6th , 2001 ! I
called my family Dr. and told him and he prescribed some
medicine for me. I took it and the day before surgery was the last dose ; I
did tell my surgeon on the phone before my surgery date . I was over it by
surgery and
I had no problems. Afrin Nasel Spray and Zithromax is what my Dr. gave
me.
Check with your family Dr. in the morning ! Call your surgeon and let them
know you are being treated .
Good Luck !

I would definately call primary physician and get some medication, before
it turns into something! You should be fine, I had problems with my asthma
the day of surgery and they just gave me some medication IV prior to
surgery. But I would definately call, as you have several days prior to
surgery and can get something, you want to make sure you get it taken care
of, as that will be one less thing to worry about after surgery! Good
Luck!
