Question:
Does previous surgery for treatment of Crohn's affect WLS?

Ruptured appendix in 1992. Bowel had ruptured at lg/sm bowel area sections of this area were removed and the final diagnois was Crohn's. I have been relatively symptom free since. Will the previous surgery effect a WLS procedure?    — gingerstcb (posted on August 24, 1999)

Crohn's disease would stop me from doing a gastric bypass, roux en y. I would just do a VBG. You should think long and hard before doing any type of WLS. The cause of Crohn's is not known and we could not be sure that a flare-up would not occur as a result of the surgery. Active crohns can be a nightmare.
