Question:
Anyone heard that WLS for small groups of employees never covered?
We have only two people covered by employers insurance (Fortis) and I was told that no insurance company would cover WLS for a group so small. There is an exclusion in my policy but I was told even if we change companies it would not be covered due to size of group. Anyone know anything about this? — lorid1020 (posted on November 1, 2004)

WEll, never is rather too inclusive. WA state is probably one of the worst
and we have ONE company here that covers WLS for companies of less than 50
employees. And the benefits are not that great, over all. Also, to get ANY
claim paid, I've had to wrestle them to the ground. However, they do cover
WLS and my company only had 5 employees on the plan. They would cover as
small as 1 (self employed), but the premiums! Ask around, because you are
not in WA, hopefully you can have better luck. Ask an insurance agent who
offers several plans.

At the time of my WLS, I worked for a company with about 10 employees.
Mine was covered (by Aetna).

I work for a company that has 2 employees covered under the group. Mine
covers WLS. It always has. So, go figure. I think it's individual, it
has nothing to do with the size of the company but all to do with the price
of the policy. I pay over $450 a month (well, my company pays 1/2)for my
health insurance.
