Question:
1 yr. post op - now nausea after breakfast
I'm almost 13 months post-op and have noticed recently that every morning about 1/2 - 1 hour after eating I feel nauseated (no, I'm not pregnant!) and have abdominal cramps. It doesn't happen any other time of the day so I know I don't have a problem with my stoma or anything. I was wondering if anyone else ever experienced this and if they have any suggestions? — georgiacarol (posted on September 13, 2001)

If you are taking in milk products maybe you have become lactose
intolerant? they say you can get that quite awhile after or soon
after...it varies

Do you still have your gallbladder? Nausea is one of the symptoms of
needing removal of your gallbladder (cholecystectomy).

Have you been eating the same thing for breakfast all along, or have you
starting eating something different? Do you think you could be eating too
much sugar or too much fat? If you can't figure out the cause you should
probably check with your surgeon just to make sure everything is okay.

Thanks for the responses. No, I don't have a gallbladder, I don't drink
milk, eat sugar or high fat and haven't changed what I eat for breakfast
(usually an egg or piece of toast w/ peanut butter). That's why I'm stumped
as to why I feel this way. It goes away after a 1/2 to 1 hour.

Well, this is downright mindboggling! Perhaps it is something intestinal?
Sinus problems often make me nauseated, or feel like my equilibrium is off,
but the cramps just make no sense. What are you eating BEFORE bed?

I was researching my cramping problem in the library. This poster said it
well. This is what is happening to me. There really wasn't an answer to
this so I thought I would ask again. Any info would be appreciated.

I try to remember to "water down" before food or juice or
coffee, etc. Especially first thing in the morning or after going a long
time with no food or water. 12/20/01 rny

How do you cook the egg? Maybe your morning meal has too much fat for that
early in the day.. I will get abdominal bloating and nausea if I eat too
much fat first thing in the mornings.. just a suggestion.
Peanut Butter is extremely high fat along with the protein and other
nutrients..

I have received an interesting answer from another board. The person said
that when he has something cold first thing he gets into trouble. When I
first get up I usually have some water, but the next item is cold melon. I
am going to try and switch to warm tea first.

I have a terrible time with eggs, but worse so first thing in the morning.
The previous poster is on to something with the warm idea though. I feel my
best start to the day is when I start either with oatmeal or with my
peppermint tea. (Sometimes I'm famished and want to eat first, most of the
time though I want the tea first). Good Luck! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -87lbs.
