Question:
How long should I wait until I 'call everyday' for my answer from the Insurance...?

Hello everyone. I haven't been online in Eons because I am afraid to be online when the Insurance company calls or the Surgeon's office. It has been 5 weeks since my surgical consultation. It has been almost 4 weeks since they faxed over the letter. (They mailed it, but 'it didn't get received'). My insurance says that it will take 4-6 weeks for approval. So since it is just about 4 weeks now, should I sit tight? The big thing is, each time I call, I get the same gal who handles Insurance Claims for my husband's particular business. I don't want to piss her off. I do call once a week, and she seems a bit agitated. She isn't that rude or anything, but keeps telling me to wait the 4-6 weeks first. Anyone got Advice for me? Thanks in advance to all that reply. I am so nervous! --Much love to all, Annie    — Annie R. (posted on June 4, 2001)

First off, if you always get the same girl.....I would start the conversation with a compliment to her. "You have always answered my questions so considerately or you have always been so friendly on the phone, I appreciate that." Then say, "I am concerned about my preauthorization, can you tell me the status?" End the conversation by saying "how awfully sorry you are to take up her time but this surgery is so important to you - I'm sure you can understand?" Then the next time you call - say - "It's me again. How are you doing? I know I am being pesty but you have been so much help, thank you. What is the status today? Okay, great, thanks for your help. I'll probably be calling tomorrow!" Keep killing her with kindness even if she isn't the friendliest person! Letting her know that you will be calling everyday will also put her on the alert for your call and it won't piss her off (as much!) when she gets the call cause she was expecting it. One of these days she'll be prepared to tell you YOU'RE APPROVED when you call. Good luck. (My preauthorization letter was just received at my insurance company last week. I'm giving them till June 11th before I start my calling campaign!)
