Question:
When should I call Insurance Co. to find out status of Claim, w/o seeming too pushy?
My Surgeon's office said they would fax the Letter for Surgery on Thursday May 10th. How long should I wait to call the Insurance Company to see if they received it, and what the status is on the claim. I don't want to seem pushy or overbearing either. Tact is a hard thing when you are waiting for the rest of your life! :) Thanks in advance for responding, --Annie — Annie R. (posted on May 14, 2001)

ANNIE, IT DEPENDS ON YOUR SURGERY DATE. MY DATE IS 5-29 AND MY INFO WAS
FAXED TO INSURER 4-26. THEY ARE STILL EVALUATING, NOT ASKING FOR ANYMORE
INFO. MEANWHILE I THINK I WAITED TOO LONG BEFORE I STARTED CALLING. I
STARTED AFTER 1 WEEK. NOW IT'S DOWN TO THE WIRE, I MAY HAVE TO CHANGE MY
DATE. UNNEEDED ADDITIONAL STRESS.

Oh boy, based on the answer to my question, I have another.... I have NO
date set. Should I have set up a date with the surgeon to hurry the
Insurance Co. along? I thought I had to wait until
after I get approved to get a date. Suggestions? Thanks all, --Annie

I think you need to remeber that it is YOUR insurance company. You are
their customer. I called ever day and if I thought that I got someone that
was just brushing me off I would hang up and call agian. You are their
customer. You or your work pays them. Don't be afraid to make them work for
you cause they should anyway.

I waited one week from the time the surgeon said they faxed the letter.
Then I started calling every day for the status. The first time I called,
they said they had never received anything, so I had it faxed a second
time. It took three days before it showed up in their system. By the end
of the second week, they had again lost the paperwork, and it had to be
faxed a third time. I was very polite every time I called, but became
quite insistent when they gave me the run-around. - Kate -
