Question:
Has anyone ever had roux en y performed after stapling?

I had stapling done 6 years ago at 600 lbs. Stapling reduced me to 344. Had a baby last year and now at apx. 375. Considering the roux en y procedure for more weight loss. Arthritis is getting severe and not able to lose any more weight on my own. Can anyone help?    — Annette Y. (posted on November 20, 1999)

RE: RNY after stapling. You sound like a perfet candidate for RNY from what i have read so far. I hope all goes well for you, what a great inspiration for all of us to see someone actually go from 600# to under 400#. Good Luck, you deserve it!! Diana

My understanding is that many surgeons do not want to do revisionary procedures. Dr. Rutledge in Raleigh, NC at the Center for Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery will. Good Luck! Juliana ([email protected])

Hi, I too have the Stapling (VBG) in 1994. My Staples broke after 4 years and I started gaining all the weight back but before I gained it all back, I found a surgeon and he performed the RYN(and lap, too) on me Feb 1999. I have now lost all the re-gained weight and a lot more. I was 208 on the day of surgery and today I am 137, size 4/6. If you have any specific questions, please email me at [email protected]

I have NOT done this. But I want to encourage you to proceed. I know MANY who have done this and they are all delighted that they did. They prefer the RNY life to the VBG life. The lesser vomiting, the larger variety of foods, the ease of wt maintenance. I have an older style RNY and my staple line is disrupted, so I will be facing a revision as well. I will choose my distal RNY again (but the more modern variation) and my same doctor. He got me to 112 lbs this time and I trust him to keep me here! Good luck!

I had a VBG in 1990 that basically fell apart. I posted basically the same question you had. Anyway, I am scheduled for an RNY on Feb 28th. I am just wondering if the success rate is the same for a revision as for someone having it for the first time. If you want to talk, email me at [email protected] Good luck!
