Question:
Will previous surgery prevent me from having WLS?
I had a partial hystorectomy (Bad spelling) when I was 27. I had my gall bladder removed when I was 28. I'm now 55 and would like to have WLS. Both surgeries were open surgery. Will this prevent me from having WLS and if so why? — Jan B. (posted on August 20, 1999)

I had surgery at 44. I'd had gall bladder at 23 (back in the dark ages);
tubal at 25; full hystie at 31--all open, of course and another 6 or 8
non-abdominals. My doctor approaches with caution with all that but it
still got done. And while I may have a large adhesion collection inside,
the only scar left is the tummy tuck scar. ALL the rest are gone, gone,
gone. Along with 150 lbs of me. Darn, only 112 lbs left.

those previous surgeries should not cause a problem..I also had my gall
bladder removed, ectopic pregnancy, plus hernia repair and my Open RNY is
scheduled for 9/03/99.......

Hi..I had two c-sections and (ages 21 and 24) and a full hysterectomy at
age 25...none of that prevented me from having the surgery (I had it at
age 45) Good luck!

I have now had 2 bouts of cancer, a full hysterectomy, and a gangrene
gallbladder done as "open surgery". Not only was I able to
handle an open RNY, but the Doctor went thru the previous incisions and
removed the heavily keloided scars. Don't worry about it. The only thing
that you would likely be more prone to is hernias. Just avoid any lifting
for at least 6 weeks afterwards if possible.
