Question:
how do I get rid of five pounds that crept up?
I'm really frustrated. Some meals I can eat too much and have to focus not to overeat; some meals am lucky that I can barely eat. I must be doing something wrong as in June I weighed 124-126. Now I weigh 131. The scale just keeps coming up. For breakfast I eat a bowl of cereal with bluberries or a yogurt, lunch is chicken with salad, dinner is lean cuisine or a protein with salad. I snack on four dried apricots with a handful of almonds or an orange or a sugar free fat free ice cream bar. I lift weights daily and work out three times a week.I am uncomfortable at this weight and when I had my period and the scale hit 137 one night, I had to keep reminding myself it was just water. Now it's over and I'm 131, it seems every month that I gain a pound. Please help. Is there a a better daily menu? Do I need to buy a scale for my food? Should I eat a protein drink for a meal instead? — elaine27 (posted on April 7, 2005)

Some folks will tell you to cut out the cereal. However, I'm one of those
people who thinks that whole grain cereals, that aren't coated with a lot
of sugar, are actually beneficial for you. You also may not be getting
enough calories so you're body is working overtime to hang on to what it
has. Try increasing your calorie intake with protein shakes. And don't
pretty much eat the same thing everyday, shake up your routine.

I had gastric bypass in FEB./02. I was 268 pounds and went down to 150.
I'm now at 175 and i'm suffering I just started my diet on Monday. I would
suggest cutting the carbs and increasing the protein. The atkins shakes
are great. Good Luck!

When my weight goes up (after EVERY holiday!) I use the South Beach Diet
Phase I to lose it quickly, or Phase II if I'm not in as much of a hurry.

Darlene, I tried to check your profile to see if it had a height or a size
there to see if your current weight is reasonable for you. While 124-126
may be what you'd like to be, 131 may be more reasonable for your height.
You are at the 2+ year mark and a weight gain of 10 percent is not out of
the ordinary especially if you lost below your original goal and even if
you havent altered your eating or workout routine. However, if you are
determined to shake these 5 pounds, and I'm with you, I am three years out
and have gained 5 too, the only way is to shake up the routine. Your not
eating too much so I doubt its the daily calories, so try eating a bit
differently by adding some protein. Add a good protein shake (whey
isolate, like Isopure) to the daily mix, and have scrambled eggs for
breakfast a few days a week instead of the cereal (I assume the cereal is
whole grain?) And shake up the exercise routine, do something different.
Either work out a bit more or a bit less. And if your not already, drink
more water...Its the doing something different that will change things.

This is MY suggestion... some will disagree but I'm going to say it
anyway.
Stop eating cereal, milk, fruit, and breads. Concentrate on protein...then
vegetables. I would also suggest that you start drinking 3-4 protein
drinks a day (with water). Do NOT replace a meal with a protein drink.
Now, having said that not everyone is perfect.... (fruit happens! :0) FYI
- Nectarines have a fairly LOW amount of sugar for a fruit.

I would not suggest Atkins shakes. They are milk and soy protein based.
The whey protein is better.

It's time to join the Grad list. No guarantee that you'll get the rest of
the wt off, but there's also the trick of maintaining the loss you have
achieved. There is a lot of combined long term experience on this list and
I'd recommend it in conjunction with this site and any local lists you
use.

I am with you Darlene, I keep careful watch of my weight and try not to
let it creep up more than a pound or two before I hit the high protien low
carb diet we all started out with. That seems to really work for me. I
did hear something the other day that suprised me about dried fruit. Due
to the drying process the sugar is concentrated therefore your getting
significantly more sugar in 1 dried apricot than if you ate 1 regular
apricot. And because the dried apricot takes up less room you can eat more
of them. 1 regular apricot would fill you up but you can eat 3 or 4 of the
dried so more sugar. If it were me I would cut back on the friut
especially the dried and eat a protien bar or something sugar free for
snacking. Keep your chin up you have done great!
