Question:
Being that I have to have MAJOR hernia repair, will there be a lot of pain?
I'm nervous about the surgery, it will be done on the second and it runs from sternum to belly button and it sticks out really far, my surgeon says it's huge. I also may be having my gall bladder removed at the same time (Not micro surgery). I was told I cannot lift a thing for three months after the surgery, is that pretty serious? Will I be in a whole lot of hurt after the surgery? Thanks! Hugs, Tracy — Tracydarlin (posted on August 30, 2004)

Hi Tracy, I dont know about the pain, but Im going in to have a couple of
hernias repaired on sept 23, there also doing an anchore cut abdominal
plasty at the same time,, Im really not thinking about the pain,, If I can
make it through open RNY, then Im figureing I can deal with this,, I just
concentrate on the final outcome,, hopefully the pain will be well worth
it,, good luck with your hernia repair.

I had a very large incisional hernia. Had surgery on an outopatient basis.
I was back to my marketing job in one week. The pain was nasty it took me
at least 5 days to start feeling better.

My hernia repair was done 8/2/04 along with a tummy tuck. My hernia was
bigger than any I've seen on this site and my surgeon called it huge too.
My incision is breast bone to the top of my hair line. The pain was on a
scale of 8 but handled with pain meds in hospital and at home. Recovery
and swelling is going very slow. I'm 4 weeks out and still can't fit into
all my pre-surgery clothing. I have a weight-lifting restriction of 15 lbs
for 6 weeks but in all reality I not going to risk lifting anything more
than that for way long than maybe 6 months. I never want another hernia.
I've got more of my hernia story on my profile if you want to check it out.
You'll do fine, pain meds are great!
