Question:
What in the world is going on with my tongue!

My tongue is red and seems irritated and wants to bleed when I brush my teeth and tongue. The back of my mouth is also red and irriated. My question is, is this from being tubed for surgery and then NPO for so long that the mouth dries out??? I am 1weekpost-op Any help would be great. Thanks!!    — Angela P. You could have Thrush, or another infection. I'd see your dentist asap.

The same thing happened to me. It was my only negative reaction to the antibiotics. It wouldn't allow any coating to form at all on my tongue nor plaque on my teeth between brushings. It went away by itself about two weeks after I stopped the antibiotic. My tongue was so sore and I couldn't brush it without bleeding so I didn't until it went away.

It may be Thrush. I had it from the antibiotics. My doctor prescribed meds for it that i had to swish around my mouth. That worked just fine and it went away.

Sounds like a yeast infection. It'll go away immediately after finishing your antibiotic - you should be about done. If not, call your surgeon for something to counteract it. Or you could lick your armpit to introduce some new bacteria! Phhhtooey!

Steve...how gross LOL! Thank you all that posted. I was not sent home on any antibiotics and am doing fine. I chose to ignore the "thrush" and it is getting better. FF/SF Fudge pops help and they have protein! Take care all and thanks!
