What in the world is going on with my tongue!

My tongue is red and seems irritated and wants to bleed when I brush my teeth and tongue. The back of my mouth is also red and irriated. My question is, is this from being tubed for surgery and then NPO for so long that the mouth dries out??? I am 1weekpost-op Any help would be great. Thanks!!
