Question:
What steps do you take with Medicaid?

Is there a website to get info on what steps to take. I have a friend who is getting on Medicaid he needs this surgery worse than I do I am worried he will die VERY soon. I want to help him in any way I can and I feel so bad that my surgery date is on the 29th and I will be on my way to better health. He just got laid off and was out of work so long before that he can't work or drive or do anything. He is getting married to a woman he is living with so that he can get put on medicaid because they say he makes too much with unemployment to get on it. SAD but true! What steps does he need to take...where should he go...to his DR to a surgeon...somebody with a clue please fill me in I want to HELP him! THanks    — Sabrina Plunkett (posted on October 16, 2003)

I would find a surgeon in the area, and speak with the insurance/surgery scheduling person there. Ask them if medicaid covers the surgery, and what they require for it to be covered (monitored attempts, comorbidities, etc.). Then get the PCP to refer to the surgeon if he meets the criteria, or needs help meeting it.

I found that looking through the surgeons on here and reading through the lists of which insurance they take helped a lot. I e-mailed all of the surgeons in my state and asked if they took Medicaid. Then I made my decision from there. :) Hope that helps!! Best of luck to your friend.

Hi :-) My insurance is the same. My PCP set me up with all the appointments and bloodwork, then set me up with a surgeon. Everything has been paid 100% thus far. Good luck to you and your friend.

I also have Title19. The doctor's in Sioux City & area would not accept Title19. Would that stop me? NOPE. I got online & started looking for another doctor that would accept that insurance. I am pre-op with Dr. Harris in Sioux Falls which is around 2 hours away from me. There are doc's out there that will take Title19, so DON'T give up!
