Question:
Ladies only, question about surgery when on period
I am scheduled for an abdominoplasty tomorrow. I sharted my period yesterday, my surgery is about 4 hours long, will I be able to wear a tampon during surgery, or how will I control the bleeding. I always get my period right after surgery, from the anesthesia, but I've never had surgery when on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Jen — Jennifer C. (posted on October 9, 2003)

Had the same problem and questioned my Surgeon. It is not considered a
problem. You are not able to wear a tampon or pad during surgery although
they will place one under you. Just take your supplies to the hospital for
use after surgery.

When I had my WLS, I just started my period, and I used a tampon. I didn't
tell anyone (I really didn't think anything about it). Wrong! I was so
sore. As dry as your mouth is after surgery, you are dry there. It was
painful to remove the tampon and I was sore for days. Just let the nurse
know and they will slip a pad under you when you get on the table. They
are so use to it!
