Ladies only, question about surgery when on period

I am scheduled for an abdominoplasty tomorrow. I sharted my period yesterday, my surgery is about 4 hours long, will I be able to wear a tampon during surgery, or how will I control the bleeding. I always get my period right after surgery, from the anesthesia, but I've never had surgery when on it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Jen
