Question:
Has anyone had RNY with lympedema and gotten relief from swelling of feet and legs?
I have lympedema as well as amyloidosis (affects my kidneys) and hope to have surgery in Dec. or January. Wondered if anyone else had this affliction and how the loss of weight helped the terrible swelling of feet and legs. — Carlene B. (posted on October 1, 2003)

I had severe lymphedema of my lower left leg and foot and both are normal
size now (I do have permanent discoloration in my lower left leg and top of
my left foot from the LE, but it's functional and that's all that
matters!!!!). I do wear regular compression support socks (knee-high)
that I got from the Dr. Leonard's catalog to help prevent fluid
accumulation (from the chronic venous insufficiency that I also have) while
I am sitting at a desk during the work week...JR (open RNY 07/17/02 -201#
since surgery -214# since first consult)

I had RNY on Aug 14th,2003 and I am no longer having problems w/ Lymphedema
:) Not even wearing compression hose anymore.
My therapist mentioned that the reason I had Lymphedema is from my
Panni" hanging down and blocking my Lymph nodes...

I was diagnosed with primary lymphedema in December 2001, although the
swelling began in 1998. I had RNY in April 2003 and now weigh less than I
did when the swelling began, however my legs are still swollen the same as
before surgery. I get compression wrapped and lymph massage at least twice
a week. I am disappointed that my legs have not improved since surgery. I
have lost a total of 110 pounds, 70 since surgery. My legs are better
since I began being treated for lymphedema. You can read more on my
profile and there is a picture of my legs. I do hope that my lymphedema
will become more managable, but have no idea when that will be.
