Has anyone heard of an "oppt. Out" letter? The Surgeons office is saying they mailed one out to all the ins. comanpies saying that they will not pay any discounts for WLS. They are saying that they have a contract with the ins. co. saying that they exclude WLS when it comes to the discounts but they will pay them for any other type of surgery??????    — Sabrina Plunkett (posted on July 28, 2003)

what do you mean they won't PAY out for discounts...do you mean that they won't accept the discounted amounts? Yup, they have the right to opt out and no longer be an "in-network" surgeon. I don't know if they can do this with only ONE surgery type, but your insurance can answer that for you. Good luck!

I agree with the last response. The dr is saying that he is not agreeing to take a discount on WLS but will continue to allow discounts on all other procedures. I would check with your PPO to see if he can do that. Unfortunately, he probably can. But it's not saying that he won't do the surgery, just that if you use him, he will not allow any type of discount. You would be responsible for paying any amount the ins co doesn't pay.
