Question:
Im approved thru Tricare, but cannot find a Dr who isnt booked!
Tricare has been great, and fast. I only have insurance for 2 more months, but am approved. The problem is, all the local civilian Drs are booked for at least 2-4 months for even a consult, and the Army Drs are deployed! Please help with any advice you can give. I feel like giving up. — missdjv B. (posted on May 3, 2003)

Keep hunting around - Last year when I first started looking, most doctors
in my area (Philadelphia) had 6-9 month waiting lists for a consult. I
found one (who ended up being my surgeon, and I am very pleased) - and I
had my consult in about a month, and my surgery a few months later. Best
of luck.

Am I willing to travel?! You betcha! I would go to the North Pole if I
found out Santa Claus was now a certified Doctor who does Bypass Surgery,
accepts Tricare, and can meet the time requirement!.. Well, ok that was a
bad joke, but yes I am definitely willing! I have researched this for the
past two years, and am very sure this is the right thing for me. My family
is 100% behind me as well..

I know California is a long way from home for you, but I also have Tricare
and I'm sure my surgeon's office would work with you given your time
constraint. If you're interested in his name/number in Southern
California, let me know. Postop 1 month down 29 pounds.

I live in Pensacola, FL., just about 8 hours from where you are at and my
consult was scheduled within 2 weeks.
