Question:
What could be causing me to have a sweet taste in my mouth?
When I drink anything, eat or smoke it all tastes like it has sugar in it. It is getting really disgusting. I also wake up with dryed something on my lips. I am 18 months out. It has happened before and will last about 2 or 3 days. — Tammy V. (posted on February 5, 2003)

I just read the following on a Dr. Atkins web site, "Why does doing
Atkins cause bad breath? Well, actually, it causes ketone breath. Ketones,
which impart a sweetish smell, do not cause bad breath so much as a
different breath odor." I bet that you are in Ketosis. Are you
drinking enough? If you increase your water intake enough, it should get
better.

I dont want to scare you, but just want to pass on this experience. I had a
boyfriend that was a diabetic and whenever I kissed him he tasted sweet and
I sometime would find a crust type stuff on my lips after this. You might
want to have your blood sugar checked. But I would think WLS would make
this go away not bring it on?!

I use a protein powder sweetened with stevia, and I notice a sweet taste in
my mouth that seems to develop long after I have had the shake. Kind of
annoying, but it does encourage some extra water to help get rid of it. I
don't notice this after I have any other sweeteners.
