Question:
Has anyone been able to eat most anything one week out.
My doctor never started me on a liquid diet. I went straight to soft/pureeded foods. Now one week out I can eat most anything without ANY problem. He says no sugar or caffiene. Last night I ate the inside of a low sodium/fat chichen pot pie (not the crust). Is this ok? I don't want to drop weight off real quick and stave myself. I want to use this tool to learn to eat the correct things in the correct amounts. I am looking at this as a life change. I read everyone elses post and think that I may be looking at this incorrectly. I have given up all sugars, not carbanated beverages, eat low fats and carbs. and no bread except crachers. I am not snacking. Snack foods are not allowed in this house!! I did all of this before surgery and lost several pounds prior. sorry so long just really fretting that I might be fooling myself wanting to just eat normal amount and normal food within limits. — Oldsoul (posted on March 1, 2002)

u r fine! i was discharged from the hospital with my surgeon telling
me...eat anything u want...as long as its pureed to the consistency that
can be sucked thru a straw. so yes...i have been eating whatever i want
since i got home. hubby bought me a stick blender & i just pureed
whatever i was going to eat. i also gave up sugar, fats & carbs. but,
we have to have trace amounts of fats & carbs so i ate applesauce,
pureed cling peaches in light syrup, pureed pineapple in its own juice for
the carbs & for the fats i use a dab of real mayonaisse or i cant
believe its not butter. i use splenda for a sugar substitute. it tastes
like sugar but doesnt have the simple carbs of sugar (which make me dump)
or the calories. the best part is there is no aftertaste from it.
my dr did not put me on a 'diet'. he told me to eat normally, 1 oz portions
3x a day for the first 6 weeks. i then progressed to solids & i can eat
about 2-3 oz now depending on what the food is. some foods go thru ur pouch
faster than others. BUT...i do make sure that whatever food is going in my
mouth is very very high in protein. i eat lots of cheese, cottage cheese,
chicken, fish, seafood & wendy's chili. beef & turkey do not agree
with me so i stay away from them. they were never on my top 10 list anyway
so i dont miss them. 10 weeks post op i have lost 48 lbs & 41 inches.
u r doing just fine hun. u certainly sound like u have the right attitude.
good luck to u & happy new birthday!

I was on limited puree by day 5. By day 15, I was eating anything I
wanted, except raw veggies and beef. My doctor told me to go slow and
chew, chew, chew. I'm almost a month post-op and I feel good (although
kind of weak still).

Hi!! I have been able to eat pretty much anything my whole time. I never
had a liquid diet either. My surgeon told me to try a little bite (chewed
to mush) and see if I felt okay, and if I did to eat it. My body has been
very accepting, except for the few times I ate a little too much pudding
(too much sugar in those little cups!!). I also feel that I didn't have
this surgery to eat all icky foods, I did it to help with amounts. I am
eating balanced meals, proteins first, but a little carb on the side. I
have felt great physically since about week two- none of the lethargy that
some seem to have, and I attribute that to getting all my nutrition in
along with about 800-900 calories. Any less than that, my body goes into
starvation mode and burns my muscles and not my fat (not my goal!!). You
seem to have a healthy attitude, and that I think is the most important
thing. Good Luck. :)

We are given a hand out for a 2 week soft diet, cottage cheese, yogurt,
puddings, etc. I wasn't that hungry so I managed the 2 weeks okay. At the 2
week check up all restrictions are lifted and you can eat what you want
just chew everything well. I had a roast beef sandwich (minus the bread) on
my way home! I can now at 4 weeks eat anything including beef, chicken, and
pork with no problems at all. Good luck to you.
