Question:
Is this Normal???
At one sitting, I can eat about 8 to 10 ritz or wheatables(low-fat) with low-fat peanut butter and jelly on them, an entire peeled apple, and a a 6oz yogurt. And then I feel perfectly full for about 3 more hours. Is this to much? It seems like it to me, but I feel like my appetite is larger than it should be at almost 6 months post-op. I've lost 86lbs, but Have plateaued over the past 2 weeks or so and am worries that I am eating enough to maintain this weight, and I still need to lose 50lbs more. ANY ADVICE??? Anyboby have a specific plan I should follow? I do drink 2 protien shakes per day also. morn-night — [Anonymous] (posted on March 12, 2001)

That seems like a lot to me. I am only 4 weeks post op, but my dr. told me
eat whatever I want, just count how many calories I take in. If it exceeds
1000 then I am having too much. There is no way I could eat that much.
I guess you should just break all that you eat in one day and count up your
cals. You may be doing fine, that is all I would know what to do if I were
worried I was eating to much. I also would watch the fat intake also.
Good luck, maybe someone that is equal time postop can give you more and
better advice than me.

I think it's important not to compare what you can eat at 6 weeks out vs. 6
months out. I know what I can eat between these two periods will be very
different. Have you talked to your doctor? For example, mine says not to
count calories, just quantity and quality of food (keeping it mostly
protein and 1/4-1/2 cup or so).

That does seem like pretty much...But are you on your cycle? Is it that
time of the month? I notice that I eat more around that time of the month
than I do any other time. Seems like during that time, i eat more and it
makes up for all that i don't eat during the month. Ask your doctor. I
suggest, as long as you are stopping when your stomach says it is full. And
not pushing the limits. That can get you in trouble. Your weight loss seems
great also. I am at 70lbs at 5 months post op. So you are doing wonderful.
I want to lose about 50 more lbs as well. Just take it easy. Remember the
weight loss slows down as well. You be encouraged. You seem like you are
doing a great job.

I am 6 1/2 months post op and can eat as much as you are eating. I
wouldn't worry about it if you are still losing weight. I have lost 93
pounds so far. I am surprised at how much I can eat, but in a way it is
rather nice because I feel like a normal person. There are times though
when I get full more quickly than others, but on average, I can eat like
you do.

It seems to me that you are/should be getting enough protein from your
diet. Why dont you try cutting the protein drink out, that would save you
close to 400 calories.
