Question:
Has anyone ever had an enlarged liver due to this surgery?
I had some blood work done recently, and the liver function test came out high, meaning that my liver is enlarged. The Doc. is not sure why, but thinks it could be from bruising or bumping during surgery, However I am almost 4 weeks post-op and I would think if that is the case than it would be healed by now. Otherwise, I feel terrific!! Best thing I have ever done for my health!! Thanks everyone — Lauren P. (posted on October 18, 2000)

Hi,
My liver was enlarged a bit during surgery and my doctor did a biopsy...
everything came back good. I'm 2 months post op now and my liver count is
still a little high but not as much as it was so I'm sure it is getting
back to normal.
I really believe it takes much longer than the 6 weeks that we
"think" about for our insides to fully heal and get back to a
normal (unswollen unbruised) state.
If your doctor isn't worried about it then just give it a bit more time and
I'm sure it will be fine.

My liver was enlarged during surgery and my Dr. did a liver biopsy.
Everything turned out normal. I am 8 weeks post op and my blood work
still shows that my liver is enlarged. No one seems to know why. I feel
great. I have to get more blood work done in 1 month.

Yes, my surgeon also told me that my liver was enlarged. In fact, he
actually said that the right lobe of my liver was enlarged. He told me
this just minutes before he did the surgery for the second time (eight
weeks after the first one), because I developed a leak with the first
surgery. He said he had never seen that before, and did not know why it
was enlarged.
So maybe we can start the "Enlarged Liver Club" ha ha.
Just kidding.
Good Luck to you.
Sincerely,
Linda

High liver enzymes seem to be part of life for many of us. I'm 6 yrs
post-op, my husband is 5 yrs and we've always had elevated liver enzymes.
The best we've ever had is one measly point out of range! Drink water,
water and more water. We've also been using milk thistle herb, but the
jury's still out on that one. Remember that caffeinated beverages cancel
out water. So, if you drink 8oz of coffee, or iced tea or diet coke, then
drink 8 oz of water, you have taken in 0 water. Caffeine is a diuretic.
Soooo, you need to get 64 oz of NON-caffeine liquid, plus however much more
to compensate for that morning coffee. So far, no one has offered to
biopsy us or anything, but we do need to keep that water level up, even
after we reach goal wt. Big darned nuisance.
