Question:
I CAN'T FIND A PSYCHIATRIST~
My PCP wants me to go ahead and get a Psych Evaluation so that we can submit it to the insurance company with the request for surgery payment. My Problem is I can't find a Psychiatrist in my area. Anyone from the Salem, Oregon area who has had this done and can help? I have ODS Managed Health Plan through The Oregon Health Plan. Thanks A Lot! — Jenifer S. (posted on October 8, 2000)

Hi Jenifer! You can call the American Psychological Association's referral
line at 1-800-964-2000 for a referal. The operator will use your zip code
to locate and connect you with the referral system in your area. The APA's
website is: www.apa.org You might also check with your insurance company
to find out whose on their provider's list. I hope this helps. Blessings,

Almost forgot...you don't have to go to a psychiatrist for a psychological
evaluation. You can go to a psychologist. A psychiatrist is an M.D.
whereas a psychologist is not.

My insurance also requested a psych eval prior to approving the surgery.
But I had to see a PSYCHIATRIST, not a psychologist. My insurance was very
specific. So before you make an appt. with a psychologist, double check
with your insurance. I would hate for you to waste your money!

Jenifer, Since I too was unable to find a psychiatrist in my area that did
this type of eval, my PCP did it. The insurance company accepted it, and
all was well.
