Question:
Can I be approved while pregnant?
I am seriously considering having WLS done, but my husband and I are trying for our second (and final) child. Should I just wait until the baby comes to even try to see a doctor, or can I be pre-approved and get a surgery date while still pregnant? I would like to do it while the new baby is still quite small. Plus, is Lap. RNY my best choice? (under these circumstances) — Mandi Lutz (posted on August 11, 2000)

I am in the process of doing exactly that right now... (So I will keep you
informed.) I just got my PCP and my OBGYN approval to do the surgery after
the baby is born in mid July. (I need to wait 6-8 weeks) My goal is to have
WLS while on Maternity Leave so as long as the Surgeon is ok with my goals
and paper work, approval etc. work out I am hoping for a late Aug. or Early
Sept surgery date. I am very lucky to have a husband and family close by
who will help. I am curious if anyone else out there has done the same
thing? If so how did it go?

I have just begun the process of getting the approval for WLS. I have my
first consult with the surgical clinic on 3Dec. However, I just found out
today that I am pregnant. My guess is that I will be due the end of July. I
cannot breastfeed due to a breast reduction a few years ago. I would like
to know if anyone has been in this situation and how long do I have to wait
after having the baby?
