Question:
Calling all Tricare Insures. PLEASE HELP

Ok everyone, wow the months have flow my hubby has lost is final pound and filled out his final paperwork and we will know our first duty station by early nov. Hubby is the best he lost wait and is going back in the army just to get the insurance for me to have surgery. Here is my question Which tricare insurance should we choose that has the better payout for the surgery. I am sure i do not want the surgery on post(army base). I have been researching this but i would just like people with the difference insurances to list copays etc they might have had to pay. You can feel free to email me at [email protected] if you would rather. Thank you for all the help. I would have to say reading everyones success stories on here is the only thing that kept me going this last 2 years. Linda    — Navada L. (posted on October 14, 2005)

From my perspective, prime is your best bet. with referrals, you have NO COPAY. That is the best. I am going to have to pay a total of 150 dollars for "education" required by my surgeon not covered by tricare - beyond that, i have no cost! do you have any idea where you might be going to? where you hope to be going to? Also, depending on how quickly you want it done, you may consider going with a base doc - sometimes a shorter wait, and always fewer tricare hoops to jump through

as a active duty family you dont get to choose your plan, you will be prime. but how it works will depend if you live close to the base or stay at home. that can make a difference. you may want to consider that befor you move with your hubby.

I agree with the previous poster, Tricare Prime is the best way to go. My hubby is active duty Navy and thats what we have, there is no cost as long as you get a referal...the only thing I have to pay is 93.00 for a nutrition class and Tricare is going to reimburse me. Just my 2 cents :) Elizabeth

Hello Linda, I am happy for you and your husband. I agree that Tricare Prime is the best option, however just a heads up. The service member is automatically Tricare prime not the dependants. You must either mail in the enrollment forms or go to the Tricare service center and enroll as a dependant to be prime. Otherwise, you are Tricare Standard and can incur fees. The best thing to do is visit the Tricare center as soon as your hubby gets you added to DEERS and fill out your forms. You must complete them by the 20th of the month for your Tricare prime to be effective on the first of the next month. Tiffany Moore Tricare Beneficiary Services Rep

Tricare Prime is paying for everything. I will not have to pay out of pocket. But you must enroll in prime. Like the other poster said you are on standard untill you enroll. I am not having my surgery done on base to long of waiting period and they only do open. So I got refered off base and it was very easy. Good luck

Tricare Prime has not given me any problems. I got my authorization in less than a week and got approval for the surgery in less time than that.Being as I was referred by my PCM there is no co-pay.Good luck!

I use Tricare Standard and could not ask for better care. I do pay a 25% co pay, but that is mimiumal considering that I get to pick who I want to see, and am not assigned to only a few to chose from. I did find that it may be difficult to find a doctor that excepts Tricare, but I have been very fortunate that the ones that I have PCP, surgons, specilists, are all very good and I would recommend them to anyone.
