Question:
4 yrs Post Op... Hair loss.. HELP!
I have been experiencing hair loss off and on since my surgery. I bought the Sally Beauty brand of Nioxin, I've used it two mornings and it seems my hair loss is WORSE! I take Biotin also. What else can I do? It's depressing! What doctor do I go to? Anyone ever have their hair come back? I'm scared that I won't have anything left. Thanks in advance for all replies. — Kath442 (posted on April 7, 2005)

I've heard from several people who were losing there hair that they were
told to take Zinc and their hair stopped immediately falling out. Maybe
you should try that.

Kathy,
You should not be haveing hair loss now 4 yrs later, unless
you have had recent surguries. Everytime you have a surgury
you will experience hair loss 3-to 4 months after & it will grow back
like it did in the beginning. If you have not had any recent surgury I
would up my protein levels & maybe
have my blood work check to see what you are lacking in.

Protein is the key. Talk to your surgeon about this. If you don't get
enough protein, your hair, skin and nails are affected. ISOPURE is a great
supplement, providing you with 40 grams of protein in one 20-oz bottle. If
you choose to use ISOPURE, get the zero carbs. It's like drinking
Kool-Aid...no milk. They are pre-mixed and ready to drink. It's a great way
to add protein to your diet.

I know that I lose hair when my thyroid hormone gets out of whack, either
low or high. You might have that checked.

Have your labs done and talk to your doc. It could be a vitamin or protein
deficiency.

One more thing... have you added any new medications? I started on a new
prescription once and lost a bunch of hair for three months until my body
got use to it. Hair loss wasn't suppose to be a side effect either!

The only thing I take are vitamins, no medications. I thought my problem
was that I was anemic but I was told that it wouldn't cause my hair to fall
out and also that not enough protein wouldn't cause it either. I'm
confused about it all, not sure who or what to believe. I just know that
it comes out... and ALOT of it at one time.
I've tried to take zinc and it makes me deathly ill, I must have an allergy
to it.
Thanks for all the replies. :o) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I
can resolve it somehow. :o)

Whoever told you that "not enough protein wouldn't cause hair
loss" is incorrect.

I am 2.5 years out and I am experiencing hair loss as well. I had my blood
done and my protein levels were fine. So I don't know why my hair is
falling out like it is...

I am 9 years out now and I also experienced hair loss-big time! I found
increasing my protien help to stop it. Then over time it grew back. Good
luck...Cheryl

I am three years out and recently had a hair loss problem. It was caused
by low iron levels. I am taking supplements and it is helping. It took
about five weeks on the iron for me to see a change. Low iron is common
for long term post ops. Have you had your levels checked? Good luck

Try using Zinc in the vitamin section at wal-mart. That is what my docotr
had me use and it worked..
