Question:
WLS after Coronary Artery Bypass Graph Surgery
I had to have cardiac bypass surgery before I started planning my WLS. Does this make it easier for my insurance company to approve my surgery, or does it hinder it. I'm just looking for ideas now. I plan on having my surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and my presurgical planning at their Wellness Institute. — Benny L. (posted on March 17, 2004)

My suggestion would be to get on it NOW. My docs wrote said I was at risk
for heart attack/stroke & while I was waiting for approval I had a mild
heart attack. No damage thankfully BUT I had to be cath'd & now it's a
waiting game. I'm 3 months out from heart attack & my surgeon is
checking with cardio doc to see if it's a go for WLS. Otherwise it may be
another 3 months. I'm willing to bet in your case with bypass surgery you
will have to wait 6 months plus for WLS.:( Just a suggestion to you. Good
Luck & best wishes on your upcoming surgery. Carolyn
