I don't know what the magic # is as I don't seem to suffer from dumping (unfortunately). A great source of protein drinks is Vitalady.com (http://www.vitalady.com) You can order samples to see what you like. My favorite flavors are the chocolates. <G> As for liquid diets, check out the Trader Joe's soups. I recommend the Butternut Squash soup and the Portabello Mushroom soup. Good Luck.

I would consult with your doctor but mine said anything under 25 grams is ok...

My nutritionist said to keep it under 7grs per serving. That was when I was a new post op, not sure what it is now. For liquids you can use sugar free jello. Some surgeons say sugar free/fat free pudding is ok. Best thing to do is check with your surgeon. Good luck! Theresa

I think this is individual. I've seen some folks keep their sugar grams under 6 or 8 grams per serving of anything (I think 25 grams of sugar is whopping-high, btw). As far as protein shakes go, there are plenty out there that are low sugar or even sugar-free. I use Champion Nutrition's Proscore 100 Chocolate (which I get from vitalady, but you can get it a number of places). It's sugar-free.

5 for sugar and 3-5 for carbs and there are plenty out there that fall into this range. The higher ones are for body builders.

My surgeon said 2 grams was the limit. Unfortunately, I've discovered that I don't dump so I often go over that with no problem. I would recommend keeping it low and not trying to find out if you dump. As for liquids - don't forget the sugar free popsicles. I also had a "full liquids" stage where I was allowed the pudding, fudgesicles (all sugar free) and milk products.

Single digit. Mine was 6g. But per what? Per 30g of protein, including the "mixer". So, if a protein powder delivers 30g protein, 4g sugar and you mix it with water, it's probably a winner. The protein g are listed on the lower part of the nutrition label by "protein", not at the top for serving size. Serving size is just the amount of powder in the scoop. Scoops vary from mfr to mfr, it's about marketing. HOWEVER, in a whey powder, just under 1/2 Cup powder will deliver appx 30g protein. So, look at the protein reading, do the math to reach 30g (usually 1.5 scoops or so) and then the sugars. If you mix with other than water, be sure to count the sugar g in the mixer, and look at the serving size. 8 oz of moo would add 12g sugar, 8 oz of OJ would add about 22g sugar. Amazing, huh?

I'm usually ok if I keep my sugar gram 8 or below. As far as your liquid diet.... lots of water, protien shakes, crystal light is good. Any 100% fruit juice. Sugar free jello. Shaved ice is another good idea. I even tolerated iced tea. Good luck
