Question:
Help! Stomach pains at 7 months

I know I should have called my nurse about this yesterday, but it's too late for that now...so, I need your help. I am 71/2 months post op and on Thursday, I started having pains in my pouch area every time I ate or drank anything, which would then set off a terrible bout of gas...even though I haven't tried any new foods. Then, yesterday (Friday), it got to the point where I almost hated to eat anything because I would have such stabbing pains in my pouch area...but only for the first 3-4 bites (about 5 minutes), which then would lead to terrible gas. So, now today (Saturday), I woke up with my stomach/pouch area hurting, which I have never had happen. I started drinking my water, and took my iron & C, and it wasn't as painful as yesterday but, seems to have set off a terrible bout of gas already this morning. I am also moderately bloated in my stomach area and it is uncomfortable to put pressure on my stomach. I wouldn't worry so much if it was just the gas...but the stabbing stomach pains when I eat or drink (especially if it's anything but a small sip) are quite frustrating at this point. Does anyone have any idea what this could be from? And, yes, I already had my gall bladder out. Thanks! I appreciate your help! — eaamc (posted on September 20, 2003)

I have the same problems and I just found it to be gas pains(I hurt so bad that I act like im dying lol). When I asked my Surgeon he said to slow down on how fast I eat and stay away from the food/drinks that give it to me. I call them gas attacks, after a day or two I have a sore stomach. I still dont understand so much! I would just give your Surgeon a call and see what they have to say about it. Good luck and hope you feel better :o)

This may or may not help but~ what I eat from day to day does not effect me the same way... one day I am fine eating grapes for example, and the next time I get dumping. Sometimes I can eat cabbage and other times not. Beef is another, so I just take it slow and try to handle it as it comes.

If the pain gets any worse, make sure that you don't have a partial bowel obstruction. I just had emergency surgery to correct a twisted hernia with obstruction. It is very serious. Your doctor can check for this with an x-ray or cat scan. Hope that you feel better soon.

Hi Andrea...I think at this late stage (7 months out), any abrupt change in how you've been feeling that INVOLVES PAIN (gas pain or not) deserves a closer look. And certainly if the pain is making you double over or sweat or feel like you're going to pass out, it ALWAYS needs to be addressed immediately. If this pain continues, this cannot wait until Monday...I would go to the ER and make sure everything is okay. Just my humble 2 cents. Hugs, Joy
