Question:
How long does it take from your initial visit with surgeon to paperwork to Insurance?
I saw the surgeon on 5-5-03, he told me be knows that my Health Insurance will cover it as long as I have all right indications. I spoke with the insurance company today, 5-23-03 and they have not even received paperwork. Is this normal? How long do I have to wait? — Sandy B. (posted on May 23, 2003)

Sandy, I am going through BTC in Belvidere and I went for my first consult
4/30/03 and I called last Monday which would have been almost 3 weeks and I
was told that my paperwork had just went to an insurance coordinator on
5/15/03 and it would be another couple of weeks before it went to my
insurance. It's a long drawn out process so try and keep busy and not think
about it. I know it's hard because I started calling them 1 week after my
consult and and once a week since and I am told the same thing every
time...that it takes at least a month until the paperwork makes it to the
ins.coordinator. Good luck!! Sherri

My consult with the surgeon was 1/8/2002 and I got my denial in 4/16/2002.
I finished out what they said I had to do and got my approval 5/26/2002. I
had surgery 8/15/2002. Cigna is a tough nut to crack.

I saw my Surgeon on 4/24/03. I received my approval from United Healthcare
on 5/27/03. My surgeon took care of everything. Now all I have to do is
complete my pre op workup and schedule my surgery.......You may want to
check with your Doctor to be sure they have submitted your information.
Keep after them............GOOD LUCK!!
