How long does it take from your initial visit with surgeon to paperwork to Insurance?

I saw the surgeon on 5-5-03, he told me be knows that my Health Insurance will cover it as long as I have all right indications. I spoke with the insurance company today, 5-23-03 and they have not even received paperwork. Is this normal? How long do I have to wait?
