Question:
How many calories do we actually absorb?? how do you calculate this?
Goodmorning everyone I have a question.. OK here it goes.. while trying to figure out exactly how many calories I am getting in (I use fitday.com) and I was thinking about all the malisorptions issues and wanted to ask how some figure it into their intake menu?? if you are on lets say 1200 calorie a day regiment IF we worry about malisorption how many calories are we actually getting?? AND how many calories are you getting in?? sorry I hope I didn't sound too confusing but who better to ask than you all?? Thanks everyone :-) Hugs, Gail — Gail H. (posted on May 2, 2003)

I understand that by 1 year out our body has healed and now absorbs
calories from fat and carbs the same as it used to. I would count calories
as they were completely absorbed. Good Lux

Caloriewise, I'd count them all as "absorbed." Nutritionwise, we
may not be getting all we need (we know we are ... that's why we use
supplements), but as a proximal RNY, I've noticed that going over 1700
calories a day will cause me to gain, now that I'm at goal (and I work out
a *lot*). I suspect anything "fun" (especially carbs, sugars)
gets absorbed just fine, calorically speaking. Bummer!
