Question:
Can you have Kashi Go-Lean in place of Carnation Ins. Breakfast, S. Free

Hi, any help would be appreciated. I have been trying to find Carnation Sugar Free Instant Breakfast with no luck. Tried the Jewel Food STore and Dominick's . Neither one had the sugar free only the regular. I looked in the diet section and found Kashi Go-Lean. It has no sugar in it but it is 220 calories. Is that about the same as the Carnation Sugar Free Breakfast would be and if so can I use that instead. I really would like someone to let me know where they bought the Carnation Instant Breakfast Sugar Free because I would prefer to use that as I noticed that is what everyone is using. Thanks for any help you can give me. Surgery is tomorrow. Open ryn at 10:15 tomorrow morning. Yipee!!!!~! I am so excited.    — Maureen C. (posted on April 13, 2003)

Personally, I don't consider bars protein. If you want protein (under 200 cal), try protein powders you can mix with water. Then the calories stay under 200, the protein is closer to 30g and the sugar g are neglible. It's a lot easier to start your day with a gob of healthy than with a gob of carbs, only to set you up for carb cravings all day.

I don't think that is what everyone uses. A lot of us use real protein drinks and not CIB. I would order samples of protein drinks and try as many as you can after surgery. When you hit upon a brand and flavor you like, use it to supplement your food protein. Protein is the most important thing. CONGRATS ON YOUR SURGERY!

Sounds like your from the Chicago burbs, If you have a cub food near you they carry sugar free cib. You shouldn't substitute cereal for liquids for the first few weeks until your doctor says it is ok to move to soft foods, but then kashi would be a good source of protien, just watch the carb intake. Also kellogs special K has about 9 grams of protien in it as compared to the 2-3 in most cereal and fairly low in surgar. Best wishes on your surgery.

Carnation does not make "sugar Free", You will find it "No sugar added" This is what my Dr. requires. Good Luck!

For the other posters: Kashi Go Lean also comes in a liquid meal replacement in addition to the cereal, so I am sure that is what the OP is talking about. For the OP: I tried the Go Lean stuff a while back. It tastes kinda gross, but then, it sounds like most protein drinks do. I don't remember the carb amount, but if it is very low, then maybe it's ok. There's a lot of fiber in it. I would ask your doctor or nutritionist though. Good luck with your RNY!

I ordered the no sugar added Carnation at www.4webmed.com, along with a bottle of proteinex (I put a little of the orange flavor in my lemonade and can't tell it's there). You can buy individual or bulk from them.

I bought the no-sugar-added C.I.B. at Jewel in the western suburbs. If yours doesn't have it, ask for it. It was in the coffee & cocoa aisle.
