Question:
Does anyone know where I can find dry vitamin A & D (besides at www.vitalady.com)?

I managed to locate the dry vitamin E at GNC last month and it is really making a difference in my skin! I want to round out my vitamin regime with the dry A & D, since it is better absorbed than the geltabs/caps. I buy most of my vitamins at Wal-Mart since hubby and I are on a tight budget. I take 2 Centrum (generic), 2 Carbonyl Iron, 1 Ester C vitamin C, 1200 mg calcium citrate, 2 Fish Oil capsules and 400mg of the dry vitamin E. Also, does Zinc have to be supplemented in addition to what is in the Centrum? If so, does that also have to be dry? I know, lots of questions within this question! LOL Thanks much :) - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -113lbs.    — Anna L. (posted on February 28, 2003)

If you choose not to obtain your vitamins from Vitalady, (she has just about everything), you can go to GNC~they have dry vitamins and so does www.vitamincottage.com and vitaminshoppe.com. There are also a wide variety of other sources on the web.

Sheesh Michelle, have you got fans!!! Here is an email I got this morning, followed by my reply: [email protected] wrote: Do not take this as flaming, it is not meant that way. But why the shot at Vitalady. I have never bought anything from her but I do communicate with her on the graduates board and she seems like a decent person. What do you know that I don't? Fay Bayuk 300/175 10/23/01 Dr Perez REPLY: A shot at Vitalady? News to me! I love her! She is a wealth of info, even for those of us who don't buy from her. I simply was avoiding everyone suggesting Vitalady as a source since I wanted to know of a place where I can go buy the dry A & D here in my hometown area....i.e. the mall. She is more than a decent person, she is an angel for all of us! :)

P.S. Although I know the web is a great resource, and I would definitely be buying from Vitalady if I could, I recently went through bankruptcy, am only working a temp job, and don't have credit cards. Hope that clarifies things for everyone. And actually, my local GNC says they don't carry dry A & D. Perhaps I'll check the Vitamin World at the mall in another local town. But dang people, OUCH!

Michelle rocks! She is a valuable resource for us because of her expertise and knowledge and WILLINGNESS to share! She has wonderful products at a great price too. She allows us to sample her products and is totally professional in her business. Anna, the original poster, was NOT attacking the vitalady however. She was just saying she wanted her vits from Walmart because she didn't have credit cards, etc. My question is why dry vitamins? I didn't know they were preferred. Hey, Michelle, why are dry vitamins better? Do you mix them with food or water? I am confused! Duh.....And please vitalady, keep doing what you do here because we love you!!!

I was just thinking if you can't find the products in your area maybe you could mail in your order with a money order or check to vita lady? I can understand that you'd want to buy them close to home becaue you could get them quicker but you could send the money two day mail pretty cheaply and she gets the stuff out quick from my own experience ordering from her. Good luck though whether you buy local or online. Also I don't know if you have a Rite Aid in your area but you can buy a pre paid credit card there. It's $10 to activate and $5 to add money to it. Works just like a credit or debit card. I have credit problems too and though I have a checking account I don't have a mac card or debit card so I use the prepaid mastercard for things like online purchases. If you want more info the web site is www.mymccard.com I have had good luck with it.

Well. I'm humbled & something. Not sure what? But to answer why dry is better. A, D, E are fat soluble (as is K, but that's another issue). Because we (RNY, BPD) malabsorb fats & oils (to a degree), we don't get the full boatload of those elements in food. IF we take them in oil form, then we are just paying extra to not get them. Dry form is also d-alpha (vit E), which is more highly absorbed by EVERYONE. They dry D, for example, is D3, which is more highly absorbed than D2. Not sure if anyone rememebrs, but when olestra & wow chips first hit the market, people suddenly had deficienices in, you got it, A, D, E--because it kawhooshed all the fat away.

And on a separate note, there is paypal, which is a free service (if you're not a biz). I keep a personal one for myself for like Amazon & such. You can mail them money as you have it, and then you have "online" money if you want to do ebay or whatever. Just another option. www.paypal.com

Thanks for the info on dry vits. I have a question about omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids. They are very valuable to everyone for a number of reasons. I know you can get it from cold water fish like salmon but is there any way to get them in dry form? They are mostly like the gel caps in oil. I would like to be able to get them as they are good "brain food", good for arthritis and a lot of things. Thanks for any input!

This is about the omega 3 question. I have been on a search for the dry forms of everything. Michelle, vitalady, carries a product called Coromega. It is not dry, but it is not oil either. It comes in little foil packets and you squeeze it into your mouth...like an orange pudding. It contains all the omegas..3 and 6. Some people don't like the taste..I personally really like it. Another option for us is to grind up fresh flax seeds in a coffee grinder (I keep one just for nuts and flax seeds) and add two tablespoons per day to something..yogurt, protein drink, cereal. That gives us both fiber and the omegas. Good luck

I don't know if this will help but I take ADEK's. I had a DS on 4-11-01. They are chewable, from Scandipharm. I have gotten them from Rite-Aid but they are $9 cheaper from Sams and Costco. They are always kept behind the counter but a prescription not needed. I take one 3x a day. Here's the breakdown. Calories 5; Total Carbs 1g;Vitamin A)as palmitate and 60% as beta carotene) 9000 iu(180% Daily Value) Vit.C As Ascorbic acid 60mg (100%D.V.),Vitamin D 400 IU,(100%D.V.),Vitamin E 150 IU (500% D.V.),Vitamin K 150 mcg (190% D.V.),thiamin 1.3 mg (90% D.V.),Rib9oflavin 1.2 mg (70% D.V.),Niacin 10 mg (50% D.V.),Vitamin B6 1.5 mg(80% D.V.) Folic Acid 0.2 mg (50% D.V.), Vitamin B12 12 mcg(200% D.V.) Biotin 50 mcg (15% D.V.), Pantothenic Acid 10mg (100% D.V.) Zinc 7.5 mg (50% D.V.). Hope that helps. Any further info. don't hesitate to ask. This is what my surgeons program uses for us. Before decided tho I would ask your physician if this is right for you. It may not be!

UPDATE: I found the dry vitamin A & D! Oddly enough I actually found it at a health food store about a mile from home. I did an online search, found Nature's Way to be about the only brand that popped up as DRY, went to their website www.naturesway.com and did a search on where to find it near me. Voila! Much to my surprise, this same store also popped up on a search at www.coromega.com! Also, FYI for ya'll...if you go to the Coromega website they'll send you a free sample. Happy shopping (and many thanks to Michelle "Vitalady" for her abundant info). - Anna
