Question:
Could this be a panni rash?
Please pardon me if this is a bit distasteful. I'm a nearly 7 month post-op, with a lot of loose skin. I have had an itchy rash in the groin area; right above my pubis. I was thinking it was yeast-related, since I was on some antibiotic recently; but now I've been wondering if this is the type of rash many posties get in the "apron" area. If so, should I see a doctor, if for no other reason than to document it for future plastic surgery consideration? Anyone got a suggestion about how to treat it? Cranberry juice used to do it for me, but doesn't seem to now. — AmyL (posted on February 14, 2003)

This is exactly the kind of thing which can help you qualify to have the
panni removed. I don't really know about treating it, but do call your PCP
first thing on Monday and ask. Make sure it is documented, even if he/she
just calls in a prescription for you.

You got it! I get them too. Try hydrocortisone cream. Just the
over-the-counter stuff seems to work great. And yes, get it documented!

This may seem weird, but everyday I put antipersperant under my "apron
area" it seems to keep the rashes at bay. Good luck. (open RNY

hi, i'm three months post op and i got the same thing. i went to see the
doctor as you should to for documentation purposes but what he said to use
is plane old lotrimin cream that you get from the foot care section at say
wal-mart. it needs an antifungal for jock itch even if you don't have a
jock. it went away in about a week use twice a day. best luck. open distal

Goldbond powder is also quite helpful.
Walmart has their own brand which is really
inexpensive.

Sounds like a rash to me. I use a powder called Mexsana. It's medicated and
is made from 100% cornstarch. A little everyday after showering is all it
takes.

I would go to the doctor to get it documented if you plan on having your
"apron" removed. But I would suggest powder every day, and I use
"Bag Balm" on mine when it hurts. Good luck on the rest of your
journey :)

The answers below are common and effective solutions to your problem. For
sure get your doc to document it and make a treatment recommendation. The
most common skin issues that occur with loose, redundant skin are chronic
fungal infections. Fungi like wetness, so if you dry the area out with
cornstarch or the like, you will probably control it. I've had less luck
with the creams, as they don't dry things enough and the medication may not
even be needed ! Rarely, I have seen a follicilitis which is a hair
follicle infection and looks like pimples. That is often caused by staph,
and requires a different treatment approach. Good luck.

Hi - Lotrimin makes a great powder which keeps the area dry and treats the
fungal infection at the same time. It's expensive, but frankly... I'm worth
it!

I have had problems in the past with yeast/fungus infection and have been
told it's not good to use cornstarch powder because the yeast feeds on
starch. Anyone else have this info?
