Question:
Has anyone gotten WLS approved through Companion Healthcare used by Bellsouth?

Today I got a call from the hospital where my WLS is supposed to be scheduled to let me know that my insurance, Companion Healthcare HMO through Bellsouth has an exclusion to WLS and that they won't pay for it. Has anyone gotten theirs approved. And if so, how? I am desperate. I feel as if this surgery is my last option and I'm not sure where to go from here.    — Kim B. (posted on August 9, 2002)

Kim, have you considered changing your insurance company? I also work for BellSouth and I know we have several options for our insurance provider here in Jacksonville. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and had my surgery 5/15/02 - they covered my surgery 100%! Open enrollment is only a few months away....it's something to consider if nothing else works out.
