Question:
why am i starting to have pain when i take my meds and vitamin?
I am 5 weeks out now. For the last week i have been having sharp pains when i am taking my medicine (tegretol, cut in half) and my multi vitamin (no bigger than a pencil eraser). For the first few weeks i didn't have any pain when i took them but for some reason it has started. I know they are small enough for me to swallow. I drink my milk with it because i have to (it says to)just wondering if anyone can tell me why this is happening. — tinalivesay (posted on June 16, 2002)

I have had this same problem. I have to take a LOT of medication - zoloft,
buspar, synthroid, singulair, zyrtec, ativan, birth control pills.. I split
them all in half and it is a pain. They really hurt my tummy especially at
first, but I started taking them with carnation instant breakfast (no sugar
added) and that has helped a lot although it does still hurt some. I also
try to take them slowly, although it is hard with so many. I don't know why
it happens but my doctor said it would get better in time.

If you are potentially forming a stricture at the stoma (outlet), the pill
often hang up first. Is anything else hanging? Sitting too long? Nausea?
Still, you'll need to call your doc. Since they WERE going down, it's not
the pills, nor is it YOU, but your pouch now has its own government, so to
speak. And 5 weeks, well, this is when they are most likely to hit. Don't
delay, though, call the doc and be checked. It's easier to fix if caught
early.
