why am i starting to have pain when i take my meds and vitamin?

I am 5 weeks out now. For the last week i have been having sharp pains when i am taking my medicine (tegretol, cut in half) and my multi vitamin (no bigger than a pencil eraser). For the first few weeks i didn't have any pain when i took them but for some reason it has started. I know they are small enough for me to swallow. I drink my milk with it because i have to (it says to)just wondering if anyone can tell me why this is happening.
