Question:
I'm trying to determine if I've been transected or not.
I asked my doctor the other day if I was transected and he said I had a "divided" gastric bypass with a Roux limb that was approximately 228cm bypassed in my intestines, so he says it was neither proximal, nor distal, but somewhere in between. However, I'm still not sure if I was transected or just staples?? I asked him again and am waiting for his response but curious as to what others think when he says "divided". I'm hoping it's just not staples but that it has been transected. Any input? Thanks in advance! — [Deactivated Member] (posted on June 4, 2002)

I would ask the doctor again if I was transected. If he said divided, ask
if he means staple divided or surgically separated and then stapled.
Transected means that the stomach is surgically separated from the pouch
before being stapled. There is a space between the pouch and the distal
stomach. If your doc says neither distal or proximal, that means he
considers you to be medial.

my paperwork said that I was divided too. even after the lectures and the
pre-op appointments where he explained that he was going to transect...I
got worried when I saw "divided" instead of
"transected." anyway, I asked him if I was transected and he
said yes. =)
