Question:
Has anyone received individual health insurance in order to cover surgery?
I live in Michigan and I am uninsured at the moment. I am considering buying individual insurance with BC/BC Traditional. I am wondering if anyone has had success with doing this, or if there is another company out there that covers WLS and you can receive individual coverage. Unfortunately my employer does not offer health insurance and will not pay for any of the expenses of surgery. — Lisa M. (posted on February 9, 2002)

Hi! I bought an idividual plan through BC/BS here in Pennsylvania. I have
their Classic Comprehensive Major Medical $750 deduct. I had to get the
plan myself since I'm unemployed. My surgeon sent in for approval on 1/3
and I got approval after the first letter on 1/29 (however they didn't even
read my request until 1/27 so it actually only took 2 days for their
decision). And I'm having OPEN Rny Tomorrow 2/11 :) I pay 691.20 every 3
months for my coverage also. Hope this helps, Take Care and Good Luck!
