Has anyone received individual health insurance in order to cover surgery?

I live in Michigan and I am uninsured at the moment. I am considering buying individual insurance with BC/BC Traditional. I am wondering if anyone has had success with doing this, or if there is another company out there that covers WLS and you can receive individual coverage. Unfortunately my employer does not offer health insurance and will not pay for any of the expenses of surgery.
