Question:
Has anyone had RNY at OSU hospital in Columbus, Ohio?
I am currently awaiting for approval. I am wanting to have the surgery at the Bariatric Treatment Center in Groveport, Ohio. I called my insurance company which is I.B.E.W. Local 683 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and they told me that they did approve the surgery for one man last year but they referred him to OSU because they said that BTC was too expensive. This makes me very nervous as I want the best possible care of course. The treatment the I would get at the BTC hospital would be much, much better. I have already had my consult so I would have to go thru all of that again. Any suggestions on how to plead my case to the ins. co. to let me have it at BTC if I am approved? — Dorothy W. I had the surgery at BTC and all I can say is fight like crazy! I had the
BEST of care there. The nurses and the aides and the Dr's are just great. I
had to go in for a second surgery 3 days post and it was a Sunday and
everyone was there in no time the techs, 2 Drs and all the surgery staff
was there in an hour. They were fantastic and they were so professional.
My insurance was the same way but we are talking about your life here so if
you have to make payments do it. I am so glad I was in such good hands when
I needed the extra help. And since I have had to call a couple of times and
they are great answering questions calling in perscriptions and getting you
in if you need to. Good Luck in you battle.......LOL

Hi Dorothy,
I had the opportunity to pursue having open RNY before the end of 2001, but
BTC informed me that my insurance would only cover OSU. I have my heart
set on BTC because there are so many positive experiences there, I am sure
there are numerous success stories from OSU but personally I feel more
comfortable going with BTC. Effective today I have new insurance and have
started the process again. Fight for it! Good Luck!-Kristee
