Question:
Has anyone in Connecticut dealt with BC/BS century Preferred?
I have seen a physican in Connecticut, who recommends I have the RYN surgery. I've been researching this for 4 months now and have read many articles pertaining to insurance policies. I just need to know what BC/BS CP is requireing as evidence for the need to operate. Any information would help. Thanks — Elizabeth P. (posted on December 22, 2001)

I have two Blue Cross Plans my primary is Empire out of New York even
though I live in Danbury, CT. The secondary is Anthem Blue Cross PPO. The
first told me it would take 6 to 8 weeks for them to review my case and
they approved it in 3 weeks. I called the second to see what would happen
if the first didn't approve it since I had heard that the secondary
wouldn't approve it if the first turned it down. They said that wasn't
true that they would review it just like the primary did and they would
make a decision based on my medical need for the operation.
What they required was a full history of all diets tried in the pass and
the results, a list of any co-morbities and the pych evaluation. Dr.
Zuccala's office took care of this and they were great. Lots of times the
insurance company asks for more information but they didn't require
anything else.
I had my family doctor do a letter recommending the surgery and sent that
to them too.
So go for it and good luck.
My surgery date is Jan 7,2002.
