Question:
Quality of hospital stay
Can anyone give me feedback on St. Johns hospital in queens NY? How about St. Francis in Roslyn? If I choose St. Johns I would have a much quicker surgery date with Dr. Garber, but my family is against that hospital. Is it worth the wait for St. Francis? — fatfree2002 (posted on August 25, 2001)

Hi!
I live in New York and I would choose St. Francis over St. John's any day.
My aunt was at St. John's and the quality of care was not great. This is
just my opinion. Stick with St. Francis

I too live in NYC and know ppl who have gone to St.Johns, and all of them
say that it is not a very good hospital. If I were you I would be safe and
choose the other hospital this is your life and health don't settle for
anything less than the best.

Heidi, I am also a patient of Dr. Garber and currently in the same
predicament as you. At first I would ONLY go to St. Francis as it is one
of the best hospitals in New York, but I found out from Dr. Garber that
they are currently booked up until January. My family is also concerned
(and I admit, so am I) about St. Johns. My mother has claimed "it is
a dump". Not very positive. Also, while in Dr. Garber's waiting room
once, one of his patients was talking to another about how unpleasant it
was there and how she regrets not waiting for St. Francis. She had a
pretty bad infection and she woke up from the anesthesia DURING surgery.
She faulted the hospital for that. I am ashamed to say that I am still
considering St. Johns, only because I don't want to wait. I did check the
NYS DOH records for hospitals online and St. Johns didn't seem to have that
bad of a record of complaints and infractions. My 2nd appointment with
Garber is on Sept. 14th and I am afraid St. Francis will already be booked
through February. Please let me know if you get any other feedback.
Please! This is such an important decision.
