Question:
Have any long term post-ops had thyroid problems?

My husband and I attended our first support group meeting in Gaylord, Mi. and there was a lady seeking information about WLS. She said that she 2 people that she knew that had WLS now have serious thyroid problems. Has anyone had this or even heard of it becoming a problem?    — livnliter (posted on January 25, 2001)

I had it before wls, and now my levels have leveled out! but the doc, says not proven to be wls related, but i think it helped!

Before WLS I had my thyroid checked ever 6 months for many years. They always thought my problem with NOT losing weight was from a thryoid problem. It was always NORMAL. I am 9 months post op and at my 3 month check up I found out that I had hyperthyroidism. An over active thyroid. I get checked every 3 months and still have it. No meds for it yet. It is not real bad. Just a mild case, low end of the scale. My doctor is waiting to see if it goes back to normal. He thinks maybe it happened because of the fast weight loss. We will just watch it and see. Open RNY 4/18/00 232/142 -- 90 pounds and 75.5 inches gone I FEEL WONDERFUL!!!!!!!
