Question:
Has anyone had real good months after tapering off somewhat?

Since November 1, when I began a new job, I've slowed to about 5 pounds a month loss. I am 5 months post-op. Even my doc told me at my 3-month check up he only expected a pound a week loss. I know what I wasn't doing - no exercise, didn't hit my goal for water, etc. Then the holidays (and snows!) came. I still lost 3.5# during Christmas week! However, I've made it my resolution to get back on track with the water and exercise. My question is this: has anyone gotten back on track after their weight loss has slowed to a crawl and been able to drop, say 10-15 pounds in a month? I know we all lose differently, and I am a slow loser anyway, and am at peace with plateaus...just wanna get into the 100's next month! — Allie B. (posted on December 30, 2000)

Allie, I had open RNY 1-19-00 and last September and October I lost only 4-5 pounds each month. I am pretty good about getting in my water and protein, but consistant exercise eludes me. I started playing indoor soccer in November (we laugh more than we actually play!) and I lost 10 pounds in November! I know that playing once a week (and being a tad embarassed about my running ability) has helped me focus on improving so I do exercise more on my treadmill, but not more than 3 times a week and often less! So, I still had a good month, I will be weighing January 1st so I will see how December went:) As long as the scale is still moving down, I am happy, but that 10 pounds in November really helped me get into the holiday Spirit:)

Allie, I know how you feel. I've only lost 15 lbs in the last two months, and I know I'm now in "the honeymoon is over" stage. My resolution is also to commit to daily exercise. Time is a HUGE factor to me, so I hope that the 30 minutes per day Al mentioned below works as well for me!

Another AMOS member recommended to me to consume as much protein early in the day as possible to eliminate afternoon and evening cravings for carbs and snacks.

I want to lose 35 more lbs by April 2001 and at least another 25 before having plastic surgery if needed. I'm young, but I think I'm going to need it on my arms, tummy, and thighs. I've read on the ASPS site that losing 90% of excess weight is recommended before having plastics, so we'll see.

Here's my New Year's plan, and I'd like to hear what others think:

Walk daily on treadmill or walking track for 30 minutes
aerobics for 30 minutes 3x week
High protein breakfast
Protein shake before lunch
High protein lunch
Dinner with protein, carbs, and veggies
Limit diet sodas and increase water
One snack per day

I've heard it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, so I'm going to print this out and make it part of my daily "To Do" list until it's ingrained into my routine. I have come a long way, still have a ways to go, but I refuse to fail. I'd love to see these results by the end of next summer! I wish you the best in your continued success!
