Question:
Afraid to sleep. I just found out I have sleep apnea - now I'm afraid to go to sleep.
I had my sleep study last night and found out today that I have "Moderately Severe" apnea. My oxygen levels got as low as 66%. NOW I'm afraid to go to sleep. I'm scheduled for a CPAP fitting in a week. Any ideas how to survive until then? Thanks. — Becky H. (posted on July 12, 2000)

If you were THAT critical, you'd be wearing your CPAP now! I got mine the
day after my sleep study. All you can do is try to rest as much as you can
between now and then. You'll be able to sleep well next week. Plan a couple
days to get used to the idea of sleeping for more than 10 minutes in a row
and then plan how you'll spend the hours that are added back into your life
with full oxygen. I was down to 60% and had NO life whatsoever. But of
course, post-op, the apnea is gone, gone, gone.

Becky, My dad and I both have sleep apnea. Mine is diagnosed
as severe obstructive sleep apnea. Both my father and I find
it easier to sleep in a recliner if we do not have our machine.
I thought he was full of it when he suggested it, but it does
help.
