Question:
I have 2 insurances--both say surgery not covered.

I am completely convinced I want/need this surgery. I have two insurance policies--both of whom say obesity surgery is not covered. I have received support from my PCP. I have severe sleep apnea. I am waiting the information packet and forms from my selected surgeon. Does anybody have any idea what my chances of approval might be? Oh, the insurance companies I have are The New England (PPO) and Coventry (PPO). Thanks for any help you can offer!    — Dawn J. (posted on June 22, 2000)

It would help if you could post the specific exclusions with the exact verbage from the insurance company. What you might be interpreting as an exclusion may just be some discouraging words meant to make you go away without even asking. Unless it says something like "Even in the case of life threatening illness or related health problems any treatment, sugical or otherwise, for morbid obesity, will not be covered," then you probably have a chance.
