Question:
Anyone that has been approved through Aetna, when did you see the Nutritionist?
I began my 6 mth diet last year, I'm in about the 9th month, but my PCP didn't send me to see a Nutritionist until 4/5/05. I was denied by Aetna, b/c they are stating that my 6 mth window didn't begin until 4/5/05 according to them, b/c that's when I first saw the Nurtitionist. Has anyone in the last 2 years, been on the 6 mth diet with Aetna, and then saw a Nutritionist after the diet started and still got approved for surgery, whether it was the first try or with an appeal????? — sdbass (posted on May 18, 2005)

I was approved by Aetna and did not have to see a nutritionist. I did my 6
months with my PCP. I also did not need to have a psych evaluation. I had
Aetna PPO, not sure if that makes any difference. I was told as long as the
6 months was Dr. supervised, it would be acceptable. I know how frustrating
this whole process can be, so be patient and best of luck to you.

I had Aetna, I saw the nutrionalist right before beginning my 6 month diet
and saw her every month afterwards..I also saw a behavioral therapist every
month. Also my exercise routine had to be monitored...SO I had them write
letters from the Y that I had been there daily..It is a hassle, but so
worth it.Best of luck

I have Aetna HMO. I've had PCP supervised weight loss, and Aetna told my
surgeon that I have to have the nutrition consult prior to them submitting
it for insurance approval. Hope things are going well for you!
