Cheryl, don't be freaked out. It is often normal for people to vomit early
post-op. And some people cannot handle meat for months, especially the
first time trying it. Don't be scared to eat, once we are post-op much of
the food we eat is trial-and-error. Our stomachs are small now and have
been through a big change, so not everything is going to agree with it. Try
just eating the cheese and yogurt and cottage cheese for now. Maybe in a
week or so try the lunch meat again. What you can't handle now, you may be
able to eat everyday in a month. Things change, so don't get discouraged.
And make sure you eat everything very slowly and chew it well, that is a
major cause of throwing up. Goodluck to you- you will do great!

Sweetie - I'm three months out and STILL can't eat meat! It is different
for everyone, and I agree with the previous answer to start with cottage
cheese, puddings, soft cheeses, and finely, finely ground meats. Also
refried beans and pureed soups. Give your new little baby pouch time to
heal. At two weeks it's still inflamed and tender and healing. If you can
get your water in, and your protein in, that's what you concentrate on.
The solid food stuff just may not happen for a couple of weeks. If you
find that you can't keep water or solid food down for like 24 hrs...then
contact your surgeon because that is a sign of a stricture. You won't be
out of the woods on a stricture until about six weeks out. But as long as
you can get something down, you're OK.

I'm 10 days on solids and had the same experience with lunchmeat, as with
many other foods. The interesting thing is that there doesn't seem to be
rhyme or reason as to whether I will vomit - as one time I may do fine with
say, fish and the next time I'm vomiting. Your experience sounds perfectly
normal. Some people are lucky and can eat whatever right away - most are
not so fortunate. Renee has been much more fortunate and has had virtually
no vomiting - so, every one is different. Hang in there and be patient.
I'm believing that things will improve for both you and I!
